The Magellan Discoverer is a purpose built polar expedition-luxury vessel, her maiden voyage will be in November 2026. She offers almost exclusively Fly-Cruise voyages from Punta Arenas in Chile to King George Island on the Antarctic Peninsula. The Magellan Discoverer will take just 76 passengers on her fly cruise voyages. Not only does this allow all the guests for one cruise to arrive and depart on the same flight (flights are limited to 76 passengers), it also allows all guests to get off the ship for excursions quickly and efficiently.
The ship has 40 suites and cabins in five categories, including dedicated single cabins. The cabins are spacious, ranging in size from 20 to 40 square metres. 42 cabins feature a large window and a private balcony, 8 have a porthole. All cabins feature a private bathroom and a sitting area.
She has a forward-facing observation lounge, an observation deck, a dining room that accommodates everyone at one sitting. She also has an outdoor barbecue area, a gym, and a sauna. The bow of the ship is accessible to guests to offer expansive views during exploration. Adventure activities include kayaking and snowshoeing.
Specific measures have been taken to minimize Magellan Discoverer’s carbon footprint, including state-of-the-art engines that produce very low emissions (Tier III emission standard with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and heat recovery systems). To minimize fuel consumption, a waste heat recovery system recycles the heat produced by the ship’s engines and re-purposes it to power the ship’s heating system and to warm the water used on board.
