Denise – Argentina, Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica
Hello Jenn and Cinzia,
It’s been a week since I got home from my incredible holiday to Argentina, Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica. I want to say thank you, particularly to you Jenn for all that you did. Thank you for “making” me stay the couple of days in Buenos Aires, instead of going straight down to Ushuaia and the return journey also. I loved Buenos Aires, it was beautiful and interesting and the people were lovely. The same for Ushuaia.
Where do I begin with my expedition cruise and the Ocean Explorer and all I experienced. After talking to your former colleague, Alana, I get the feeling you were instrumental in me getting my cabin to myself. If you were, I thank you unreservedly for that, my cabin was wonderful. The rest of the ship, as I’m sure Alana will agree, is beautiful, very comfortable, I would say the perfect size. The expedition crew are amazing! Quark should be so proud of them all, Woody is an exceptional leader, Annie, Nicky, Sasha, Santiago, Neil, Sofia, and everyone else were fantastic.
OMG, how extraordinary is the southern polar region!? I will never forget it. Being so close and seeing the nesting albatross and rockhopper penguins, just brilliant at West Point, Falklands. South Georgia is just WOW! I won’t ever get over being so close to the King penguins and seals at Salsbury Plains and Gold Harbour. This was the highlight of the trip for me. I loved the King penguins, I loved the whole island, such a unique and very special place.
I loved finally standing on Antarctica, but it was only the once, so the itch hasn’t been completely scratched there 🙂. Maybe a bit early in the season. The zodiac cruising was fun and I really enjoyed cruising past the icebergs, they are fascinating. The Gentoo and Adelie penguins were so cute and fascinating to watch.
It was a long journey to and from Argentina and my only little gripe would be not having control of my plane seats (I don’t like sitting in the middle seats), I’m not used to that.
It was the best experience of my life, I even did the Polar Plunge 😄. It was bloody awful but I’m glad I did it (Alana got footage of me doing it, would you please remind her to send it onto me, thank you 😄).
I’ve attached a few photos, I hope you like them.
Thank you so much, Jenn and Cinzia, what a trip of a lifetime it was.
Kindest and warmest regards and Merry Christmas too!
Denise
