I picked up this book at the airport on my way to Svalbard earlier this year. I have to say it’s a really good read. In short it’s a story of Jamie’s quest to see all of the world’s 18 penguin species. He travels on a number of ships we work with and worked for Aurora; he thanks them in his book ‘Aurora Expeditions for giving me employment and changing my life. I know you were short-staffed but still’. Jamie’s style and Glaswegian humour make it a very interesting and fun read.
I particularly liked the last sentence of the book – and no I am not going to spoil it..
I just worked out I am up to 15 species, just the Erect Crested, Fjordland (both in NZ) and the Northern Rockhopper – which is not so easy to see (Tristan de Cunha), though possible on a Swan Hellenic repositioning voyage, which ends in Cape Town – so if you need to add African Penguin you can do that on the same voyage.
